I'm just about the last person who can give advise on what to wear at the gym. I rarely wear matching sox, don't coordinate my outfits whatsoever and have been caught on multiple occasions wearing a shirt that reads "physexy" (the combination of the words physics and sexy, a shirt designed by my high school physics teacher). Trust we when I say I have NEVER felt sexy wearing that shirt. While I do not exactly have the right to comment on what other people wear to the gym I have granted it to myself for the sake of this blog and my mom who is probably the only person that reads this.
Gym Dress Code (Part One)
- I don't want to see your stomach. That's what shirts are for. It doesn't matter to me if your the most fit person in the building or just beginning at the gym, put your stomach away please.
- Sneakers. Why anyone would not wear sneakers to the gym is beyond me. Sneakers. Sneakers. Sneakers. Just wear sneakers.
- Boys who cut their shirts where arm holes should be so you can see how "huge" they are getting. Go home. We don't care. (I take that back, some of you can stay.)
- Jackets. I actually haven't seen too many people do this before but it's been done. Some people begin their cardio work outs in jackets and slowly pull off layers to increase sweat levels. This one just makes me nervous. Won't you get hot? Is it snowing on your side of the gym? What happens if you sweat too much? Do you have mittens too?

ReplyDeleteHi Katie! As I told you in class the other day: I love your writing. I liked how you comment on your mismatched socks and your "physexy shirt", as well as how SOME of those guys with their sleeves-cut-off shirts can stay. You are too funny. Reading your opinion definitely made me laugh because it's the real truth!
ReplyDeleteI have definitely shared these observations in my gym visits. While I try to not be a judgmental person, I have certainly seen some questionable choices! I suppose that everyone wears what they are comfortable in, and this varies greatly. I'm usually just a plain tshirts and shorts girl, myself! (And I wouldn't even TRY to exercise in anything but my bright pink sneakers).
Thanks for making me laugh!

I love this, I go to the gym maybe a few times a month...nower days, but I used to go a few times a week and so I've observed what you pointed out and more, some people just don't know how to dress for the gym. You said that you don't need to see anyones stomach no matter how fit they are, I completely agree, usually they are fit when they show off their stomachs and it kind of makes me jealous in a way, because I'd rather have there body than mine, so when they wear there shirt I like to imagine fit people with nice big guts... hahahaha. I don't wearing a jacket while working out, but I've always worn a sweatshirt when I go run on the tread mill, yeah I sweat a lot more than if I wasn't wearing one, but it's not that bad, because I'm drinking a lot of water. I do it because I feel a lot better about myself, even if it isn't making much of an impact.
